If you got them all right then great! How many times have you been stumped with words and not known what they meant? Did you rush to a dictionary to find out what it meant? Or did you just assume what it could have meant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vocabulary is a tool which when used effectively to one\u2019s advantage works wonders. An extensive vocabulary enhances your communication skills<\/a> and contributes to you professional success. So how can you master this tool?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Learning new words by rote is not the best way to learn new words. After some days you will forget them. The best way to do this is not memorising but by putting them in context. Repeated exposure to words and that too in context is the key. Try this, read these sentences – The walk up the hill was very enervating. The teacher was enervated after having to deal with a bunch of unruly kids. The children were enervated after the long sports day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You now have an image in your mind, with which you can associate the word. As children, we have always learnt new things this way \u2013 by associating it with something which we could relate to. The same thing applies to almost anything new you try to learn. So here enervate means \u2018feel tired\/weakened\u2019. The context in each of these sentences enables you to imagine the situation in your head which helps you relate to the meaning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next time you see a new word, always remember to check the usage with context. There are multiple other ways of learning new words but this one is an easy, sure shot way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
