Don\u2019t let your interview checklist end there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A face-to-face interview is your best chance to have a good conversation with? and establish a connection. It also means that you need to say the right things. Just like the detectives from crime movies, the interviewer is sharp and looking for clues to check your fit with the organisation. Being nervous is acceptable and okay but being watchful of your language is non-negotiable. It is, therefore, very important for you to not make any of these gaffes which could make you unfit for a position. Bad language<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>All words that makes your elders cringe is not good for an interview. It doesn&#8217;t make you sound cool, just displays your poor choice of words, or worse, might reflect poorly on your personality. Bring your best vocabulary to the interview and you will be remembered for your choice of words.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Fillers<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Ummm\u2019, \u2018hmmmm\u2019, \u2018you know\u2019, \u2018just\u2019, \u2018really\u2019, \u2018I mean\u2019, etc. are weak crutches for your sentences to lean upon. It makes you sound shaky and unsure. All these fillers will tire the interviewer and make him\/her tune out to the real points very quickly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Clich\u00e9s<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m a perfect fit&#8221;, &#8220;I&#8217;m a natural leader&#8221;, &#8220;I&#8217;m a team player&#8221;, are all some of the clich\u00e9s that are infamous and have a very bad reputation. Blank statements often mean nothing. Step away from the danger of sounding like everyone else. Make descriptions unique and informative.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. Informal language<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A formal interview is of a professional nature and formal decorum and language is expected. \u2018Man\u2019, \u2018bro\u2019, \u2018dude\u2019, \u2018ji\u2019, \u2018yeah\u2019, \u2018yep\u2019, \u2018nope\u2019, and any other casual words or behaviour display a complete lack of professionalism and disrespect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Strong words<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Hate\u2019, \u2018terrible\u2019, \u2018awful\u2019, \u2018horrible\u2019 are all words that should stay out of the door. These words make you sound small and grudging. It is not classy and makes the interviewer worry if you&#8217;ll badmouth the company later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Abstract words<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Kinda\u2019, \u2018actually\u2019, \u2018stuff\u2019, \u2018things\u2019, \u2018like\u2019, \u2018basically\u2019, \u2018so yeah\u2019, are all casual and make the conversation ambiguous. Take a few seconds, halt, process and deliver your thought. Neither begin nor end with these words. Visualise and practise your delivery so you don&#8217;t fault at the interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7. All about you<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When the world is working towards collaborative efforts, language must show it too. If you are constantly saying \u2018I did this\u2019 and \u2018I did that\u2019, it makes you seem like a selfish person who wouldn&#8217;t be much of a team player. That&#8217;s a red flag, right there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8. Negatives<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Can&#8217;t\u2019, \u2018don&#8217;t\u2019, \u2018won&#8217;t\u2019 are all words you must avoid. If you want the interviewer to have a positive opinion of you, be aware that your word choice must be positive. It&#8217;s a classic case of please remember vs. please don&#8217;t forget and the former is always better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>9. Money<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Salary, pay, compensation, perks, benefits are all ways of bringing money into the conversation. There is a time, place and person for it. When you bring it up at the first meeting it makes you seem money-minded and that is an impression you really want to avoid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>10. Hyperboles<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Google hyperbole, learn the common hyperboles and stay away from it. They simply bloat your sentence without conveying any real meaning.
