If the book cover doesn\u2019t grab your attention, turn it over and check the synopsis. Not all authors get the best designers, so don\u2019t judge a book by its cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Does the synopsis at the back of the book sound interesting to you?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We may feel like we need to learn the art of speaking in public. But, is it a topic that will hold your attention till the end? Or, will it lead to another book that was too boring? Your success in reading depends upon reading books that interest you. In these days of self-publishing, there are books that can go as deep or as light as you want. Whether it\u2019s true crime or history, be honest, there is no shame in reading what you like!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Does the language seem clear and straightforward to you?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you are learning the language, long sentences with too much information can quickly intimidate you. Choose books that have simple, uncomplicated writing, even if it is written for a young adult. If you want to learn and improve, you need to unapologetically pick up what\u2019s best for you, not a book that looks good on you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.     Do you like the writing style of the author?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The writing style of the author is an important factor that will help you finish the book. More important \u2013 if you like the style, the words will remain with you for longer, so will the writing style. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Ernest Hemingway used short, clipped sentences, F. Scott Fitzgerald used flowery, descriptive language. P. G. Wodehouse, a popular favourite is known for his humour and slang that are absurdly elegant. Isaac Asimov writes science fiction with a straightforward, almost journalistic style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. Does the book impart any special knowledge?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Arthur Hailey\u2019s books are known to be written about a specific industry, John Grisham wrote about law and Robin Cook wrote medical thrillers. Mario Puzo\u2019s books specialised in Mafia and Alistair MacLean wrote about secret operations. Reading books from any of the above authors, will help you learn more about an industry as well as the language used in it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
